About

MONAD FILMS

Our Philosophy

The word Monad represents an indivisible unity, a self-contained world that mirrors the entire macrocosm from a singular viewpoint. In an era of formulaic storytelling and algorithmic content, Monad Films stands as a sanctuary for the uncompromising auteur.

We believe that the most powerful cinema does not look outward at objective reality, but inward at the internal landscapes of the soul. By exploring the hyper-specific, deeply personal experiences of characters, our films unlock questions that resonate across cultures and borders.

What We Do

Subversive Storytelling: We specialize in character-driven narratives that prioritize poetic visual language, dense atmosphere, and internal psychological depth over conventional plot mechanics.

Independent Production: We build films from the ground up. Operating within the lean and raw reality of independent cinema, we focus on maintaining the creative integrity of the auteur, ensuring that the filmmaker's singular vision reaches the screen without compromise.

Ian — Founder & Executive Producer

Born in South Korea and navigating the world as a global nomad, Ian’s journey to filmmaking is rooted in the geometry of displacement and belonging. Moving to the United States at the age of eleven, he spent a solitary adolescence grappling with language barriers and identity confusion. In those years of isolation, cinema and music became his sanctuaries.

Though his earliest passion was acting, the constraints of his immigrant reality redirected his path toward classical music. A cellist, Ian earned his degrees from the Manhattan School of Music in New York and La Escola de Música Victòria dels Àngels in Catalonia. However, the calling of the screen never faded. Driven by the realization that a life without acting would be a regret, he pivoted into the dramatic arts, blending his musical discipline with performance.

Ian’s lifelong obsession with cinema naturally evolved into writing and producing. Having lived across different cultural landscapes, he has continuously existed on the periphery as a perpetual outsider. It is in this cross-culture that defines the creative vision of Monad Films. He strives to create stories that dive deep into human psychology. His work is a dedication to those who live between worlds, transforming the solitary perspective of the outsider into a universal cinematic language.
